Nos últimos cinco anos, o Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras identificou 250 jogadores de futebol em situação ilegal no país. A maioria dos casos ocorreu em escalões inferiores e clubes amadores. Em causa estão crimes de tráfico humano, auxílio à imigração ilegal e fraude.

In the last five years, Foreign and Borders Service (SEF) identified 250 illegal players in Portugal. Most of the cases occurred in lower divisions and amateur clubs, and are related with human trafficking, illegal immigration and fraud. The president of the Portuguese Players Union warns of the structural problems in portuguese football, which require a coordinated action between sports organizations and the state.
